Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.
Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.
In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.
MY REVIEW
This is a really good book. I didn't want to read it at first because people were comparing it to Twilight and I hate the Twilight series with a passion. But the only thing they have in common was the fact that the main character was torn between two different guys(David and Tamani), other than that they are nothing alike. The story begins with 15 year old Laurel on her first day of public school(she had always been home schooled before) in a new town. They moved because her adoptive mother is wanting to sell their old land and her adoptive father bought a book store in the town she moved to. She makes friends quickly with a smart good looking guy named David and soon she fits in with his friends as well.Laurel has never been like anybody else. She has only been able to eat fruit and vegtables and loves wearing tank tops and flips flops even in colder weather(her mom jokes it's because she's cold blooded)One day Laurel notices a small bump on her back that looks like a pimple. It gets bigger each day til one day she wakes up to find she has grown a huge flower out of her back that resembles wings. She's too scared to tell anyone but can only think of one person she wants to know about it(David). Soon her and David are trying to figure out what's wrong with her. Then one day she goes with her adoptive parents to their old house in the woods so they can clean it up a bit. She wanders into the woods where she meets a guy named Tamani and he tells her she's a highly evolved plant and she's also a fairie like him. The story goes from there. I don't want to give it all away but you'll love it. It's a different twist on fairies that I'm sure most people will like.
